Sources of Conflict and Cooperation

It's a well-known fact that conflict occur due to some misunderstandings and cooperation takes place when people have to share with. And culture like any other factor that enjoys considerable importance may either reduce or aid conflict and cooperation. One of the main problems concerning the sphere of culture that has created serious friction for some time already is 'cultural imperialism'. It was with most of European empires (for instance, America was British colony itself not so long ago) and is with the USA now that they've been exporting own cultural commodities all around the world non-stop.
Thus, the most developed culture is American one at the moment. It must also be remembered that American culture itself has been greatly broadened by cosmopolitan influences, most from Europe since World War I, and increasingly through more prominence of Latin American, African and Asian cultural streams.
On the other hand, former British Empire that finally ceased to exist in the 60s of the past century managed to make English the most widespread of all living languages. The Empire fell but the language remained. In addition, Britain has succeeded in keeping almost all its former colonies under its influence having created Dominion of former colonies. And this is absolutely positive experience.
Resistance remains a viable strategy for many communities even in the face of global forces. There are 'many African, Asian, and Oceanic small-scale societies' which are alive and quite able to utilise elements of both local and Western culture (Howell 1995, p171). Diffusion of cultural patterns ranging from religions, arts, dance, music and views on nature is occurring between a wide range of cultural groupings.
