International cultural contacts

It is no secret that countries have always been involved in active cross-cultural exchange though family, political and economic ties. We can hardly remember any modern country that hasn't undergone the stages of war, peace-making, trading, etc. All these actions are never done in isolation as almost every state is surrounded with some other ones and it's absolutely natural that they have collaborating for centuries. In this way, every state advanced own language, culture, religion and so on.
Speaking about Europe for example, we may mention Britain and France which have been willing to promote their own language and culture as part of nation-to-nation diplomacy, territory expansion, commercial relations since the early 17th century. Likewise, Turkey tried for a time to gain some benefits from its position as a culture borderland between Europe and the Central Asia, capitalising on its access to European trade and technology, as well as a tradition cultural connection with the Turkic people of most of central Asia (the cultural area known as Turkestan). Presently, India and China present themselves to the international community not just as powerful, modernising states but as the sources of great civilisational-complexes.
It was Cold War that revealed an absolutely new level culture in international relations. Powers started to use for the purpose of ideology and propaganda. It was the time of two antagonistic political camps: communist led by the Soviet Union on the one hand and capitalist led by the United States. And it was culture that had no small share in forming those relations. From then on, culture stopped being non-controlled activity for intelligentsia. It became a universal political instrument.
